vielen Dank für den tollen Bericht. Für uns geht es dieses Jahr auch noch Sabah und ich bin ein bisschen ratlos.
Diese Sukau Junction - wisst ihr ob da abends auch noch die MÖglichkeit besteht irgendwie weiter nach Sukau zu kommen? Wir können in Semporna leider erst Mittags los fahren, und sind deswegen wohl erst Abends an der Kreuzung. Und alle Hostels etc. schreiben man soll den Bus morgens nehmen. Ahh

Die Sukau Junction ist leider ein verlassenes Fleckchen, welches von Bussen nur angefahren wird, wenn sie speziell bestellt wurden. Beim kleinen "Haltestellenhäuschen" hatte es (jedenfalls als wir da waren) aber einige Malaiien, welche gegen Bezahlung gerne gestrandete Touris nach Sukau fahren. Wie das aber abends aussieht, kann ich nicht sagen...
Falls ihr schon ein Hostel in Sukau im Auge habt, macht doch mit denen ab, wann sie euch an der Kreuzung holen sollen. Ganz ohne Rücksicherung abends und dort draussen im Nirgendwo, würden wir euch eher nicht raten.

Wir wünschen euch viel Spass auf Borneo! Wir werden die wunderschönen Wochen dort nie vergessen

It does sound amazing! Although I don't know whether you were incredibly lucky to see so much, or whether this is par for the course in the Bornean jungle. You don't talk about the insect life, though, apart from some happy leeches; is it ... a lot? large? frightening? This might be the bit that puts me off! Have a good flight back to civilisation. Lots of love to both.

We're apparently lucky to see elefants, very very lucky to see a storm's stork aaand just amazingly lucky to see the Orang-Utans in the Kinabatangan =) Aaand insects... Actually really not too bad, the odd mosquito, worm and flying thing (and spiders, not many and all small) But the gecko armies (there are LOADS of them) keep them at bay pretty well!

Borneo at last! - a dream of Ben's since he was 9 years old! I am a bit cross with this website because I wrote a long answer after Penang, which seems to have been lost... maybe just as well, though, because on the subject of vegetable names, I was suggesting that "pyaari" is very like "pyaaz", meaning "dear" and "onion", respectively (in Hindi), and could be used interchangeably. Presumably the website didn't like this suggestion ... (Bindi is okra in Hindi, so there are obviously similarities between Hindi and Malaysian.) Anyhow, have a great time snorkelling/diving on Pulau Mabul, which looks wonderful on the internet, and don't step on anything nasty. Lots of love,

Not only is it snowy in Basel, but the forecast is for temperatures of -10 °C by Friday. Winter reigns again. Which is strange because only on Saturday we were weeding in the garden and worrying about whether the tortoises would wake up too early... So enjoy the heat while you can! It's a pity about the durian - I've always looked forward to trying one, but now perhaps not: your face says it all. I hope you got rid of the stink (or at least of the suspicion of the stink) - it sounds like the cumin oil smell we once picked up in India and which accompanied us everywhere for the rest of the trip. Is the Superman thing because of the glasses, or?? Take care and lots of love to both.

I love reading this - it's almost like being there instead of in a boring office struggling with the PSUR! I particularly like the blind and sloth-like taxi driver and the Durian Chalet - lots of people came into the office to see why I was laughing helplessly...
